Design Principles-Final Compilation and Reflection
REFLECTION
I learned design elements and principles in this module because we had to use them to create each exercise and project. This also taught me that design exists in all aspects of life and is governed by certain principles and elements. Additionally, this course exposed me to a lot of Adobe Illustrator, which helped me much in developing my AI skills.
What did I enjoy the most?
I did enjoy most seeing my artwork produce. That's a sense of accomplishment. Even when I encounter difficulties or am quite exhausted when the process of my painting, I am always very happy when I see the end product that I have worked so hard to complete.
What did I not enjoy the most?
The part that makes me most annoyed and wants to give up is the initial idea of each work. Conceptualizing a work is the most time-consuming part. I need to find a lot of materials and works from the Internet for reference and spend a lot of time producing several line drafts.
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I used to feel that I was very uncreative and that I never knew where to begin when I started a piece of work. After this module, I don't feel that I am an uncreative person anymore. Referencing someone else's work does not amount to plagiarism. Inspiration comes from life, including seeing other people's works. I found that after referring to other people's works, I can conceive my own ideas and produce new work.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
The biggest change in my learning journey is I become more observant of a thing, a design, a person, etc. that surrounds me. Not only this module, but with the knowledge of other modules, I can even tell whether a restaurant’s menu is professional. What has remained the same for me is my passion for design. Although there is still a long way to go in the future, I am very happy that I am walking the path I like.
What could be improved in this module?
I hope this module can turn into physical mode. Even if it's just the lecturer giving feedback, students can continue to complete it while the lecturer gives feedback on other people's work. Additionally, let the students get the lecturer's reply immediately when they encounter a place that needs help.
