Reflection
Findings
Throughout the semester in the advanced typography module, I found the coursework to be quite engaging and informative. Unlike the previous semester, the projects in this module allowed me to learn new knowledge and discover my own interests. Although the assignments were more complex and required a significant amount of time and effort, the overall depth of learning has increased. Being able to choose topics of personal interest for each assignment made me more willing to invest time and effort into completing them without feeling bored or fatigued. However, as the semester progressed, I became uncertain whether it was due to poor time management on my part or simply having an overwhelming workload, as it seemed like I had to constantly be working on assignments and had very little downtime. Perhaps creating a new typeface requires meticulous attention to detail, which can be mentally draining.
Experience
In addition to the need for better time management, I realized that there is still much for me to learn when it comes to designing a new typeface. It is a complex and intricate process that goes beyond just creating aesthetically pleasing letterforms. Understanding the principles of typography and how to effectively position and design a brand and its logo were also fascinating aspects of the course. The idea that the designs we create may one day manifest in the real world is something I aspire to.
Observations
In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed this course as it offered interesting and valuable content that didn't leave me feeling like I hadn't gained any knowledge. Although there were moments of exhaustion and occasional strictness from the teacher, I believe that constructive criticism leads to growth. It was a rewarding experience overall, and I appreciate the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of advanced typography and expand my skills in this field.
