INSTRUCTIONS
Task 2A-Key Artwork
We were required to create a key artwork using our name.
(Failed attempt) Sketches:
Reference:
I explore with my name Q I A N. I felt interested when I searched for references and saw those logos that look luxurious and delicate. Combining peers' feedback and my intention, I decided to choose 6b to explore more and digitalize it.
(Failed attempt) Digitalisation:
This is the exploration and digitalisation of my key artwork. The letter I and letter N I change into lowercase, and change the curve strokes in the letter A become thinner. However, it seems to be unbalanced on the left and right sides. After receiving sir's feedback, I decided to ditch the existing one and make a new monogram.
I searched the keyword "modern monogram" on Pinterest and most of the references show the letters are interlaced. So I decided to try in this direction.
Reference:
I decided to use my surname instead of my first name, because when I search for monogram references mostly used 2-3 letters and with regular straight lines. Letter K and letter R have the same vertical stroke, so I'm trying to show like combining or reflecting.
Digitalisation:
I create the logo with strokes at the beginning and add shadow to see clearly which part should I leave white. The three logos with square is the final of my attempts.
These are the final three digitalize monograms, but I'm confused about which one to choose.
Final key artwork:
Task 2B-Collateral
We were asked to choose a colour scheme with strong colour contrast and with colour in dark and light at the same time.
Add the colour scheme to the done key artwork earlier.
Final main colour decided: #2e3840, #f9dbbb. Secondary colour: #4e6e81.
Collateral:
Next, position the brand, decide on a brand style, and decide what related peripheral products to make.
I decided to position my brand in a modern and fashion category. So I look for items such as bucket hats, skate boards, scarf and others that usually sell in Instagram stores or are mostly bought by young people nowadays.
Moreover, we have to take an image photo for our personal branding in front of a white wall and natural lighting and with the final key artwork.
After done the collateral items, I create an Instagram account named Ko.0oR.
I created a simple animated GIF of the key artwork.
Got feedback about the brand logo being too repetitive, and can explore more without compromising the brand.
Left: The existing key artwork looks asymmetrical and square, so I tried to use a few of rectangles to create a square element.
Right: I use the bottom stroke of the letter R & K and duplicate with reflection. (This one is more simple and suitable I think, so I decided to use this)
To avoid the key artwork his too repetitive on the typesetting, I added a simple poster of the brand and the relevant element of fig 3.7.

Reflection
Experience
During the module on creating a key artwork and an Instagram account, I had a valuable learning experience. Because my first attempt at the key artwork totally failed, I felt helpless and confused. I really had fun coming up with several key artworks using my name in different ways to reflect my personal brand. This task's step-by-step instructions helped me understand the concepts better. I used to fantasize about designing my own brand and opening my own store on Instagram, so I appreciated the chance to explore, refine and develop my ideas until I got to a final important piece of artwork that suited my brand's goal.
Observations
Due to several failed attempts in the past, I came to the conclusion that a simple and iconic logo design tends to make a stronger impact on potential consumers. The logo can successfully represent the core of the brand by avoiding components that could be confusing or complex. Moreover, the consistency of the colour used and the typesetting in Instagram is also important. This determines that consumers will have the motivation to continue reading when they enter the profile.

FURTHER READING
I did some reading with the book <AN INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES IN GRAPHIC DESIGN> by Ian Noble / Russell Bestley.
I read the beginning of chapter 2-Methods: Ways of Thinking.
The passage discusses research methods and approaches in design. It emphasizes the importance of systematic research methods in problem-solving and the development of rational and logical design thinking. Designers are encouraged to develop a personal and critical point of view through the evaluation of visual and verbal structures and by applying their findings to their own work. The passage also highlights the significance of adopting a rigorous methodology to focus a project and define the problem to be addressed. It mentions the breakdown of a design brief into areas of investigation, such as the field of study, project focus, and research methodology. Researching the field of study and understanding existing visual languages and cultural contexts are crucial for effective communication. The passage emphasizes the consideration of cost implications and available materials in the design process.
