Task 2: Art Asset Development

Week 6 Progress

Character Design

In week 6, I decided to work on my character design. For this game, the main character design was sourced from the internet, but I will redraw the character from different angles and for various actions using Adobe Photoshop. I decided to animate the character with actions including idle, walk, dash, jump, hurt, attack, death and change weapon

I search for few references:

Idle

Before: Initially, I converted the original character design into pixel art. When I wanted to change the angles of the character's arms and legs, I simply rotated them. However, I later realised that I needed to redraw them using pixel art techniques.

After: I redraw the character in Photoshop, that is more easier to make adjustment with the different angle. I also added a eye design with blinking animation. Here's the character idle position with holding the weapons look.

Walk

I search for some tutorial for a character walking position, i found that this is clear and simple. So I decided to follow the steps from the video.

Attack

Before I start designing the frames for the character's attack animations, I first use the rotate function to determine the direction and then start designing them in Photoshop. Referencing character assets from the internet has also been very helpful to me.

Elements

Environment

I decided to use an environment asset pack for the design of my game environment. After downloading the pack, I combined the various assets to create a unique and cohesive environment that fits the style and mood of my game. Using these pre-made assets allowed me to focus on the overall layout and atmosphere of the game world, ensuring that it enhances the player’s experience while maintaining a consistent visual style. By thoughtfully integrating and arranging these elements, I was able to craft an engaging and immersive environment for "Thorne’s Adventure."

example of the environment

Since I sourced the environment assets pack from the internet, I tested it by integrating my pre-designed character to ensure clarity and a matching colour palette.
