Proposal:

We decided to present it in the form of an advertisement instead of promoting social awareness issues. We planned to create a chips factory with Lego characters.

The story is about the process of potato chip production in a factory.

Process:

Preparation

Redesigning the product packaging and printing it out to stick onto the bottles.

Planning

We plan to use actual material for the potato and tomato, and the cutting tool is the tailor's thread, to fit the LEGO size. For the left props, we use the Lego toy, such as a knife, trolley, factory, vacuum cleaner, etc.

We record the stop motion video with a stop motion app using a smartphone.

Fig 1.3 Frame setting

The required frame rate is 8-10fps/sec, I set the frame rate at 8fps/sec in the setting and we can preview the video in the app.

We have 481 photos in total at last.

After colour correction, I added some captions and chat bubbles. But we decided to just use the attempt 3 chat bubble without another caption.

Completing the final stop motion project was both challenging and rewarding. It took us approximately three hours to shoot a one-minute video, and looking back, it was an intense and valuable learning experience.

During the initial brainstorming phase, Yumi and I quickly aligned our ideas and opinions, which allowed us to efficiently move forward. However, once we started the actual shooting process, we realized that our preparation was not thorough enough. We encountered uncertainties about lighting setup, whether to change backgrounds, and the number of photos required for each scene. It became apparent that we hadn't fully considered these crucial aspects, which affected the quality and duration of our final video.

Despite the lack of preparation, we remained calm and quickly devised a workflow to tackle the challenges we faced. We cooperated effectively, setting up the shooting area and arranging props. However, the process itself was physically demanding, and we accidentally moved the camera or disrupted the scene at times, resulting in less-than-desirable outcomes for our final product. After multiple attempts, we were left with no choice but to select the best version we had as our final submission. It was a lesson in accepting imperfections and making the most out of the resources and time we had available.

Reflecting on this project, I have learned the importance of teamwork and thorough preparation. Collaboration and effective communication were key to overcoming obstacles during the shoot. I realized the significance of planning ahead, including considering lighting, backgrounds, and shot quantity, to achieve the desired results effectively. Although our project had its challenges and limitations, it served as a valuable learning experience, highlighting areas for improvement and emphasizing the importance of adaptability and resourcefulness in creative projects.

Moving forward, I will apply these lessons to future projects, ensuring better preparation, attention to detail, and a more efficient workflow. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the intricacies and complexities of stop motion animation, as well as the dedication and teamwork required to bring a vision to life.
