Findings

Through this course, I have realized the significance of research methodology and the systematic approach it brings to design research. I have gained insights into formulating research questions, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing conclusions and recommendations. These skills are essential for a designer, as they aid in understanding user needs, evaluating the effectiveness of design decisions, and continuously improving and optimizing design solutions. I have also discovered the importance of thorough reading and analysis of relevant literature, as it provides the theoretical foundations and latest developments in the field of study. These findings have further emphasized the value and relevance of research methodology in design practice.

Experience

The Design Research Methodology module of this semester has been a truly memorable experience for me. Prior to enrolling in this course, I had never imagined myself writing research reports, as it is not an area I feel particularly comfortable with. Despite frequently expressing my struggles and feeling exhausted by the writing process, I believe this course has exposed me to a range of knowledge that I would not have actively sought out. I have learned how to complete a research report comprehensively, although I acknowledge that my current output may not be perfect. If given the opportunity, I would strive to put in even more effort to improve my work. Throughout the journey, I am grateful for the support and encouragement I received from helpful friends, family, and teachers, as their assistance has motivated me to persist and complete my assignments.

Observations

During this course, I have observed that implementing research methodology requires patience and attention to detail. From crafting research plans to collecting and analyzing data, each step requires careful consideration and precise execution. This underscores the significance of planning and organizational skills in the research process. Additionally, I have noticed that collaboration and communication with others are crucial for the smooth progression of research. Engaging in discussions and receiving feedback from classmates, teachers, and other professionals has allowed me to refine my research direction and approach. Such collaborative and communicative environments not only deepen understanding of the research field but also provide valuable insights and diverse perspectives. In summary, I have observed that implementing research methodology demands patience and attention to detail, as well as the importance of collaboration and communication with others.
