In conclusion, do also present one good designed infographic that best illustrates the 9 directives for information visualizations and one poorly designed infographic that failed to address the directives.

Individual Task

Exercise 1: Re-design infographic poster

We were asked to find a poor design infographic poster from the Internet and re-design it into a good one by using a free online infographic tool.
  • Use a free online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster
  • Present the redesigned infographics with before and after comparisons
  • Personal rating and review of the online tool
    • Difficulty, intuitiveness
    • Usefulness
    • Design templates, choices

Issues of the poster (fig 1.1):
  • lack of title
  • repeated content
Re-designed Poster:
Fig 1.2-Redesigned poster

I redesign the poster by using canva tools. I search for a bar chart infographic template and change the theme colour to pink and blue by following the topic of gender. Because of the original picture without a title, I just left XXX in my redesign poster.

The rate for canva:

Difficulty: 1/10★

The operation mode of Canva is clear at a glance, and it is very easy to operate. Even first-time users will not be confused about how to operate.

Usefulness: 8/10★

The functions of Canva are quite complete. For example various gifs and elements, background removal functions, photo colour correction functions, multi-person simultaneous editing functions, etc. In addition, most of the materials are free, which is very suitable for students to use.

Design templates/Choices: 9/10★

Canva has very diverse templates, such as birthday cards, business cards, posters, ig story formats, and more. Most of them are free to use! Even if a small part needs to be paid, the monthly fee will not be expensive, if you often use canvas.
